Fly The W

It’s officially fall. Temperatures are cooling off, football is in full swing and we are in the middle of playoff baseball!  Last year the Chicago Cubs were able to end a drought and win the World Series for the first time since 1908.  In the bond world we would consider them to have been oversold.  The same can be said for the 5 year Treasury right now.  The Relative Strength Index is one way to identify an overbought (around 70) or oversold (around 30) position.  The first graph shows the 5 year future is now at an oversold level at 40 and the second graph shows our 5 year Treasury for the last year.  Anytime the 5 year has tested the 2.00% level it has been met with resistance and has not been able to stay there for a long period of time.  In the past this has been a great buying opportunity for the 5 year part of the curve.
